Bottom-ranked school shoots to top after introducing Harry Potter-themed curriculum
A primary school has been praised as "outstanding" in an official government report after introducing Harry Potter-themed lessons, it has been revealed.

The fictional young wizard created by J K Rowling has helped standards at Robert Mellors Primary and Nursery in Arnold, Nottinghamshire, rise dramatically after pupils picked him to be the inspiration for all their classes.

This term has seen the seven to 11 year olds learning subtraction with the help of a Potter-esque "spell", writing their own plays based on the best-selling books and even keeping fit by pretending to get on and off imaginary broomsticks.

5 Year-old Dressed As Spiderman Saves Baby

They say "great power comes great responsibility" but this 5 year old boy doesn't need any power to be a hero.

Riquelme MacielA five-year-old boy dressed in a Spider-Man suit became a real superhero in Brazil when he saved a baby girl from her burning home.

While playing in his back garden with a friend, Riquelme Maciel spotted smoke coming out of the wooden house's windows and ran to tell the baby's mother, Lucilene dos Santos.

But Ms Santos was too afraid to enter the blaze, so it was down to young Maciel to step in and save the day - he rushed into the burning house and grabbed baby Andrieli from her cradle.

The Fire Department Chief Jose de Macedo praised the boy's bravery, and much like his hero Spider-Man, Maciel became the talk of the town.

Maciel said he is now dreaming of becoming a fire-fighter so he can save more lives.

The 'perfect' beauty

Some people always dream of having their favourite idol/celebrities features or look. I agree with the saying that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. But what happen if you combined them together to create the 'perfect' beauty? Not all will turn out the way you always wanted. Take these woman/man below as an example.

The perfect female face is made up of Penelope Cruz's hair, Liv Tyler's eyes, Sienna Miller's nose and Scarlett Johansson's mouth and chin.

Tree man 'who grew roots' may be cured

10:42 PM by mr. simplicity · 0 comments

An Indonesian fisherman who feared that he would be killed by tree-like growths covering his body has been given hope of recovery by an American doctor - and Vitamin A.

Dede, now 35, baffled medical experts when warty "roots" began growing out of his arms and feet after he cut his knee in a teenage accident.

The welts spread across his body unchecked and soon he was left unable to carry out everyday household tasks.

Sacked from his job and deserted by his wife, Dede has been raising his two children - now in their late teens - in poverty, resigned to the fact that local doctors had no cure for his condition. To make ends meet he even joined a local "freak show", parading in front of a paying audience alongside victims of other peculiar diseases.

But now an American dermatology expert who flew out to Dede's home village south of the capital Jakarta claims to have identified his condition, and proposed a treatment that could transform his life.

After testing samples of the lesions and Dede's blood, Dr Anthony Gaspari of the University of Maryland concluded that his affliction is caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), a fairly common infection that usually causes small warts to develop on sufferers.

Bornie, brown Google Makes Masseuse A MultimillionaireBonnie Brown was fresh from a nasty divorce in 1999, living with her sister and uncertain of her future. On a lark, she answered an ad for an in-house masseuse at Google, then a Silicon Valley start-up with 40 employees. She was offered the part-time job, which started out at $450 a week but included a pile of Google stock options that she figured might never be worth a penny.

After five years of kneading engineers' backs, Ms. Brown retired, cashing in most of her stock options, which were worth millions of dollars. To her delight, the shares she held onto have continued to balloon in value.

It makes me curious to find out what's the video all about, but now I don't think I ever want to know about it. Those who wanted to view the video, find it yourself and we are not responsible for any untoward actions.

How addicted are you to reality TV?

11:45 PM by mr. simplicity · 0 comments

So you think you know everything about reality TV? Bet you don't. I do have to admit that I'm not a big fan of reality tv but for what I could remember, the I enjoyed watching Survivor until it got to boring, Amazing Race was pretty much interesting, Beauty and the Geek and lastly, who couldn't forget American Idol!

Quizlee sent a request for us to check out their free quiz. It interesting to find out how much we really know about reality tv. I went through those quiz just to find out how disappointed myself with my so called reality tv knowledge. Guess I haven't been watching too much of tv lately.

Some of the questions are pretty tough and they sure did a job well done for this quiz. So if you think you are better than me, I dare you to try this quiz!

25 Amazing Photographs Taken at the Exact Right Time

2:01 AM by mr. simplicity · 0 comments

With extreme sports it is the danger and challenge that tends to excite people. Often the most amazing and bizarre images are taken right at the moment when disaster strikes. Sometimes these are tragic and painful though some are just plain funny.

With conventional sports there is always the opportunity for comedy but also the potential for artful photography. The spray of sand during a long-jump or that moment before the splash when someone is diving both provide a moment of calm in a fast-paced sport that is normally impossible to see.

In war it is often hard to find or revel in humor or traditional beauty. Instead, it is often the images that capture grave or impressive moments in time that stir us most deeply. This can come in the form of a rocket frozen in space or the geometry of a cloud of smoke from a tank.

With people comedy tends to be the rule and other things the exception. Humans tend to be at their most interesting when they are at their funniest. Whether this means a young man falling into a fountain or an old woman riding a sled, it’s worth keeping your eyes open in public places for the perfect shot!

Nature images truly span the spectrum of artistic possibility. Sometimes animals are funny, sometimes scary, often tragic and sometimes downright strange. Whether they be shot in a conventional park or bedroom or taken deep in the wilds, environmental images taken at just the right time can provide unique insights into nature and the relationship of humans and animals.

Timing is everything, particularly in the case of amazing photography. Sometimes that means waiting through a whole sports game and getting lucky to catch just the right shot. Other times than means trudging through nature for weeks to get the perfect environmental photograph. Here are 25 examples of perfectly timed images from around the world and in various genres.
